| | | | Complete Obstetric HealthcareThese services include pre-pregnancy counseling, routine and high risk pre-natal care, and post partum care and counseling. Because of the unique nature of obstetrical care, we recommend that our obstetric patients be seen by all Physicians and Certified Nurse Practitioners on a rotating basis. We want you to feel comfortable with and confident in each of us, and we want to be as fully informed about you, as well. Babies do not necessarily arrive on schedule, and by being completely familiar with your medical circumstances (as well as your individual needs and preferences), you can be assured that your birthing experience will be as satisfying as it should be - on schedule or not. We deliver at the premier hospital in Central New Jersey, St. Peter's University Medical Center. To further assist you during your pregnancy, you can call one of our two OB Nurse Coordinators anytime to help provide answers to any of your questions, to schedule special testing or if you just need someone to talk to during this special time. Special services include:
Gynecological healthcare is provided to women from puberty through menopause. Routine preventive examinations are available (and encouraged), as well as medical and surgical treatment of the genito-urinary system. Most of our patients prefer to see the same Physician/Certified Nurse Practitioner for all gynecologic care, and this is our general policy. However, should an emergency arise and your personal physician/CNP is not available, rest assured that any of the other qualified Physicians/CNPs (acting with complete access to your medical records) will see you promptly. Special services include:

Early dectection of breast cancer saves lives. Mammography is still the best tool available and an important part of your health plan. HERE ARE THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY GUIDELINES: Age 40 and over - have a mammogram every year - have a clinical breast exam by a doctor/nurse each year - do a breast self-exam every month Ages 29-39 - have a clinical breast exam by doctor/nurse every three years - do a breast self-exam every month. Somerset OB/GYN Associates is accredited by the American Collage of Radiology and FDA certified and have been since 1986. This accreditation requires us to comply with very complex and strict Federal and State laws. All patients with normal findings, will receive written results of the mammogram within the time frame required by the FDA. If there should be any abnormality, you will be contacted personally by one of our physicians or mammography secretary to advise you of the appropriate follow-up. We also offer breast cancer risk assessments based on age, ethnicity and family history. For your convenience, we offer mammography at our Union Avenue office and this can be coordinated with your annual office visit. Mammography appointments can be scheduled every day, with some evenings and Saturday appointments available. WHAT IS A MAMMOGRAM AND WHY SHOULD I HAVE ONE? A mammogram is a safe, low-dose x-ray of the breast. It is the best way to detect breast cancer early and save your life. Although mammograms are very effective, they cannot detect all problems. If you notice a change in your breast, such as a lump, thickening or discharge from the nipple, call your doctor or clinic right away. HOW CAN I BE SURE I'M GETTING A HIGH QUALITY MAMMOGRAM? The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) is a federal law that makes sure every mammography meets quality standards. MQSA under the FDA checks both the professional and the equipment they use. WHAT IF I HAVE BREAST IMPLANTS? Implants can hide breast tissue and make it more difficult to detect problems. When you make your appointment, make sure you tell the receptionist that you have breast implants because your mammographer will need more time for your exam. Special services include:
Every woman is at risk for osteoporosis, a disease that silently thins your bones, year after year. In its early stages, this disease doesn't make woman look or feel different. As a result, it often is allowed to progess to a dangerous point before anything is done. The good news is you can do something about osteoporosis today. Because you can't see bone loss, it is important to have bone density testing. This is a safe, easy and pain-free test which we can perform in our office, taking approximately 20 minutes. You don't even need to get undressed. Most insurances cover this test. Please check with our front desk receptionist to see if your insurance plan will cover bone density testing. | ||||||||
